European Paediatric Rheumatology Fellow Course

Designation of the meeting:

To promote knowledge, skills, network, and European collaboration of future European paediatric rheumatologists

Venue and dates: Atlantis hotel & resort in Belek (Antalya), Turkey; 22nd -26th April 2009

European Paediatric Rheumatology Fellow Course

After an enquiry among all attending European paediatric rheumatology fellows during the 2007 Paediatric Rheumatology European Society (PRES)-meeting in İstanbul, we found out that there was a great need for an educational course with certain topics of paediatric rheumatology. We were able to discover the special educational needs for the European Paediatric Rheumatology Fellows by the enquiry forms. We have 59 active fellows in paediatric rheumatology registered in our database (around 20 new fellows every year).

We will have evaluations of different topics during the course among the fellows and have a form for comments how to improve the course. The organizers will explore with the sponsors the benefits for all parties and if there is a possibility to make it an annual event which will be frequented by every European paediatric rheumatology fellow once during their fellowship.

The number of attendees will be limited to 30 according to the date of application. Only fellows in Paediatric rheumatology are invited and priority will be given to those within their last year of fellowship and to those who will volunteer to participate in the presentations. Fellows who would like to make presentations are asked to send single or multiple case abstracts on the topics mentioned in the application form.

European Paediatric Rheumatology Fellow Course

Set up:Ten senior faculty members will be selected to act as (career-) mentors to the attendees, and give didactic presentations during the program. The faculty members will all be selected on basis of their expertise in the required fields. Thirty fellows in paediatric rheumatology will be selected from all European countries. If the number of applications exceeds the number of 30, priority will be given to last year fellows since this is their last chance of following this course. Since PRES is our main sponsor, priority will also be given to applicants from European countries that are not yet represented in order to stimulate the future European collaboration. Eight selected case-abstracts will be presented by participants during an approximately 30 minute presentation, discussion time included. The case-abstract will be sent in advance to the assigned mentoring faculty member who will supervise the fellow in the preparation of the presentation. The faculty presentations consist of thirty to forty-five minute didactic presentations with discussion time included. Faculty and fellows take turns chairing each time block. There will be time for personal career mentoring by a senior staff member not affiliated to the fellow.Apart from the evaluation of the different topics discussed during the course, there will be a formal evaluation by attendees and senior staff of the total course.

***The deadline for application is 30 January 2009. Confirmation for acceptance will be provided by e-mails.

***PReS will provide a bursary for all attendees and it will include registration and accommodation (excluding flight expenses).
